Mrs Whibley

“I am so grateful for the help of the Trust. As a health professional, I strive to develop high standards of care for those with complex needs. I am studying in order to develop my skills in a highly specialised field and the support from the Trust has been invaluable. It has enabled me to travel to training days and has facilitated my being able to purchase specialised books which I would otherwise have been unable to do. This will benefit my personal development but more importantly the community as a whole. I feel privileged to have been supported by the Trust.”

“I have lived in the Parish of Borden since 1983 and absolutely love it here. My son TJ was born in 2005 and we soon found out he had some difficulties which was very hard to deal with. I first approached the William Barrow’s Charity when TJ was ten and some lovely ladies came to visit to discuss what I was applying for. During the visit, I said that I had written a letter to ask for help with my son, but hadn’t sent it off because I felt that I kept asking for help and didn’t want to be a burden. The ladies asked for the letter and after reading it, offered to help me straightaway, which was amazing. Now, we get a grant for TJ twice a year which has helped us to purchase the specialist boots and toys that he needs. More recently, we applied for help with purchasing a new pushchair and the charity did not even hesitate in lending us a hand.

The help the William Barrow’s Charity gives us also extends to the rest of the family, such as helping to fund an activity for my daughter who attended Borden Primary School, and paying for a term’s worth of nursery fees for my youngest daughter when I was struggling. The Charity have offered me so much help over the years and I will be forever grateful to all the members of the trust.”

“We wanted to thank you all for agreeing to support an autism dog for Benedict. We were incredibly touched by your support and grateful for the changes that we are sure it will make to our lives. Benedict in particular is very excited about the forthcoming arrival and has already bought a bowl and a toy.

We would also like to thank you for helping us when the original provider fell through and agreeing so quickly that we could apply for an autism Life Dog. Once the dog has arrived, we hope that it will be possible for us to introduce them to you!

Many thanks, Charlotte, Anselm and Benedict Fisher."

Mrs Hancock and family

“My daughter and I moved into Borden Village in June 2001. My daughter has many health issues and is disabled. A family friend mentioned the William Barrow’s Charity to me and told me to apply on behalf of my daughter, which I did.

The Charity has helped in many ways, both large and small. In the very beginning, the William Barrow’s Charity paid for me to go away for a weekend for some respite, and when my daughter’s soft room needed improvements to ensure it was safe, they helped us again. Even with day-to-day products needed to help my daughter, they are there to offer support.

More recently, the Charity helped by helping me pay for my daughter’s mobility scooter. When the grant did not cover all of the costs, they did not stop there, and lent me the money to pay the outstanding balance.

The Charity has helped us a lot and I would like to say my daughter and I are very grateful.”
